For Immediate Release: Date: 4/29/09 Massachusetts Life Sciences Center Board Approves First Round of Accelerator Program Loans for Early Stage Companies Boston, Massachusetts, (April 29, 2009) –The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (the “Center”), a quasi-public agency tasked with implementing the State’s $1 billion Life Sciences Initiative, today announced the awarding of $3.4 million in loans to seven early-stage life sciences companies in Massachusetts. The Center’s Accelerator Program provides loans of up to $500,000 to early-stage companies engaged in life sciences research and development, commercialization and manufacturing. The Center’s Board of Directors approved the first-ever round of Accelerator loans today. Seven companies will receive loans out of a total of eighty-eight applications that were submitted to the Center for consideration. Spectra Analysis was awarded $500,000. “This investment in Spectra Analysis reflects our commitment to early-stage companies working to produce therapies that will improve the human condition and address unmet medical needs,” said MLSC President and CEO, Dr. Susan Windham-Bannister. “The Accelerator Program aligns with MLSC’s mandate to ensure that Massachusetts maintains and strengthens its global leadership position in the life sciences sectors, spurring economic development, and creating new jobs.”
“The strong interest in the Accelerator Program and diversity of applicants required us to develop a process that had extensive analysis, objectiveness and rigor, through an initial peer review process and subsequent review by the Center’s Scientific Advisory Board,” said Dr. Harvey Lodish, Chair of the MLSC Scientific Advisory Board, Member of the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research, and Professor of Biology and Professor of Bioengineering at MIT. “The awardees are companies whose commercial prospects, scientific innovation, and potential for development of new therapies and devices for the life sciences are consistent with MLSC’s mission and vision, and we aim to help translate this innovation into creating new jobs in Massachusetts and new life-saving technologies.”
“The MLSC’s Accelerator Program Loan provides critical bridge funding, enabling the Spectra Team to continue optimization of our proprietary molecular spectroscopy technology,” said George Giansanti Jr., President & Chief Executive Officer of Spectra Analysis, Inc. “Optimizing our DiscovIR-LCTM systems will accelerate the company’s ability to create jobs and revenue. The MLSC Team is experienced and efficient in executing its mission and Spectra is privileged to receive an award among the many distinguished applicants.”

Marlborough, MA September 5, 2008 – Spectra Analysis, a leading provider of hyphenated HPLC and GC / FTIR detection, announced today that R&D Magazine has selected the DiscovIR-LC™ for its prestigious 2008 R&D 100 Award. The DiscovIR-LC is a breakthrough, hyphenated FTIR detector technology for HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography). ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Enhanced Resolution Infrared Detection System for LCMarlborough, MA March 21, 2007 - Spectra Analysis Inc. introduces a new LC-IR detector, the DiscovIR-LC™ system. The detector utilizes revolutionary desolvation technology to physically remove the solvent and obtain solid phase transmission phase spectra of each HPLC peak. DiscovIR FTIR detectors are compatible with any LC or GC. The system is compatible with the same concentrations and autosamplers used in many LC-MS or GC-MS workflows. Splitters may be used to work with MS detectors. The DiscovIR-LC™ system automates the separation, analysis and reporting process (reduces sample preparation time). Compatible solvent systems; Reversed phase, Aqueous, Acetonitrile, Chloroform, Methanol and THF. The DiscovIR system identifies components in a complex mixture. Infrared spectroscopy provides each compound’s unique fingerprints, making it quick and easy to identify each peak by searching the extensive solid phase IR libraries. It is particularly useful in differentiating diastereomers and structural isomers.
